Pokémon fans who enjoy a good brain teaser will find plenty to chew on in Pokénnection. This daily browser puzzle puts 16 Pokémon on a grid and asks you to sort them into four groups of four. Each group has a hidden connection, but spotting it isn't always as easy as matching Pokémon by their types.
You might notice several Fire-types straight away, only to discover that some of them belong to a group based on real-world animals instead. Other answers can involve Pokédex colors, evolution items, abilities, regions, or even exact base stats. The trick is figuring out which connection the puzzle actually wants.
Choose four Pokémon that you think belong together and submit your answer. Get it right, and the group reveals its category before those Pokémon disappear from the board. Get it wrong, and you lose one of your four lives. If three of your choices fit, the game may give you an “One away!” hint, which can help you rethink the final pick.
That little clue can be a lifesaver, especially when two categories seem to overlap. A Pokémon might fit several possible themes, so guessing too quickly can leave you with very few chances to finish.
Once the standard grid feels comfortable, Normal, Hard, and Hard+ difficulties offer tougher connections to figure out. There's also a larger 5x5 board with 25 Pokémon, five groups to uncover, and five lives to work with.
Adventure Mode adds a different goal, taking you through Pokémon regions such as Kanto and building puzzles around Gym Leaders and their teams. Unlimited Mode is there for anyone who doesn't want to stop after one round, while the community section lets players try fan-made puzzles or create their own.
Pokénnection rewards the kind of Pokémon knowledge that goes beyond remembering names and types. Familiar creatures may be easy to recognize, but finding the less obvious links is where the real challenge begins.
